In order to effectively increase the capability of the disaster prevention system and the awareness of the community about natural disasters, and also to provide a premise for the Government’s Project 1002 and the “National Strategy for the Prevention, Response, and Minimisation of Natural Resources until 2020”, An Giang Province has launched the Project “Community Based Disaster Management” sponsored by the Australian NGO (Care) with a non-return fund of 36.000 USD until June 2012.

At the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC) Conference on February 17th, international sponsors, ministries, departments, and NGOs agreed that climate change policies have expanded with much greater consistence than 5 years ago.

He also comments on a recent Canadian government announcement that they will withdraw from the Kyoto protocol: “We had a bit of theatre from the Canadian govt who made an announcement that they would drop from the Kyoto protocol, which would be an extremely bad sign.”

India committed to combating climate change

The Energy and Resources Institute's Arabinda Mishra says 16 out of the 28 Indian states have climate change action plans in place. Mishra was presenting the findings of a recent study at the COP 17 United Nations conference on climate change in Durban. India has committed itself to reducing its carbon emissions by up to 25 % by 2020.
