Nam Dinh evacuated nearly 500 households to safety due to the risk of rising flood waters.

9:22:13, 13/09/2024 Water levels on the Day and Ninh Co rivers in Nam Dinh province continue to rise, causing seepage and leakage and threatening to overflow the dykes. Faced with this situation, authorities have urgently evacuated 400 households to safety.

Faced with the above risk, on the afternoon of September 10, Secretary of Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee Pham Gia Tuc inspected the response to heavy rains caused by storm No. 3. In Truc Ninh district, especially in the Boi Noi Xuyen area, Phuong Dinh commune, the rising water of Ninh Co river has threatened 459 households with 1,455 people.

In response, the district has reinforced areas at risk of flooding with sandbags and evacuated 400 households (1,200 people) to safety. Mr. Tuc emphasized the importance of evacuating all residents from dangerous areas, including those with solid houses, and said he was ready to enforce the evacuation if necessary. It is also necessary to prepare adequate accommodation, food, and medicine for people at the shelter.
At Quan Chuot Pumping Station, My Tan Commune, the Provincial Party Secretary encouraged the staff and workers for maintaining maximum operation of the generators to drain water in the city. He requested to continue maintaining the number of staff and ensuring the effective operation of the equipment..

Evacuate people to safety.

In Nam Truc district, especially in the Dai An area of Nghia An commune, water leakage is causing a risk of landslides. The district has urgently mobilized forces, machinery, and bamboo poles to reinforce the area and prepare a plan to evacuate people. At Nam An Brick Factory, water overflowed, threatening the production area and neighboring households. The Provincial Party Secretary requested the district to quickly reinforce the area and mobilize all resources, and at the same time called on people to evacuate to safety.

Due to the impact of storms and floods from upstream, the water level on the Day River in Y Yen district has risen, causing seepage and leakage on many dykes. This situation has seriously affected communes such as Hong Quang, Yen Khang, and Yen Phuc. In populated areas such as Yen Tri (12,000 people), Yen Dong (900 people), Yen Nhan (686 people), and Yen Phuc (3,945 people), the situation is very tense. The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Ý Yên district said the dikes are only capable of preventing floods at alert level 2, and evacuating people will become urgent if water levels continue to rise.

The rising water level on the Day River has caused many dikes in Ý Yên district to seep, bubble up, and leak on the dike body.

On September 10, serious incidents occurred at several points on the dike system, especially in Ninh Mat and Ngo Xa villages, Hong Quang commune, where the embankment was partially overflowed for about 200 meters. Yen Phuc commune built a spillway and treated the leakage by building sandbags, and at the same time evacuated assets and about 60 households to a safe place.
