Yen Bai: Trees fell, houses had their roofs blown off, one person was injured due to a tornado

10:36:22, 06/05/2025 On the evening of May 5, a thunderstorm with whirlwind in Tran Yen district injured one person and damaged nearly 60 houses.

Many areas of crops and trees were affected by storms in Tran Yen district.

According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province, the storm that occurred on the evening of May 5 affected 05 communes: Van Hoi, Hung Khanh, Viet Hong, Hong Ca and Kien Thanh.

Preliminary statistics show that 59 houses were affected, of which 52 houses had their roofs blown off at different levels and 07 houses were damaged by fallen trees.

Of which, Van Hoi commune was the locality that suffered the most damage with 44 houses affected. Other communes also recorded significant damage: Hung Khanh (09 houses), Viet Hong (03 houses), Hong Ca (02 houses) and Kien Thanh (01 house).

Thunderstorms and whirlwinds in Yen Bai injured one person and damaged many houses.

The storm caused Mr. Hoang Van Minh (born in 1959 in Minh Phu village, Van Hoi commune) to be seriously injured by a falling tree. Immediately after the incident, Mr. Minh was promptly taken to Yen Bai Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment by local people and authorities.

The storm also caused damage to agricultural production, destroying about 05 hectares of rice and various crops.

Immediately after the disaster occurred, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Tran Yen district directed the affected communes to mobilize maximum local forces to focus on rescue.

The top priority is to take the victims to the emergency room, while supporting families whose houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off to temporarily fix their accommodation and ensure safety.

The work of clearing fallen trees and clearing traffic routes was urgently implemented.

Currently, localities are still urgently reviewing and making detailed statistics on the extent of damage to have timely support plans for the people.

The work of monitoring weather developments and proactively developing further response plans is also being actively implemented by local authorities.
