The Emergency Telecommunications Network (ETN) is seen as one of the key players in supporting ASEAN's joint response activities. This content has also been mentioned in the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) 2021-2025, specifically in Priority 3: Prepare and Response. The output of this activity will identify Information Technology (IT) Application needs in the Roadmap for applying IT in Disaster Management to 2025 and beyond, building an IT Task Force.
The ASEAN Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance in Disaster Management (AHA Center) in collaboration with the Singapore Civil Defense Force organized a workshop on the Emergency Telecommunications Network for Disaster Management (ETN) and the Training on the use of some communication devices in emergency response in Singapore from February 6 to February 10, 2023.
The main objectives of the Conference include the following three main topics:
a. Exchange ideas on the application of emergency telecommunications technologies in timely and effective humanitarian assistance;
b. Sharing information on existing equipment and emergency telecommunications system needs in member countries;
c. Study the possibility of establishing an Emergency Telecommunications Network in ASEAN.
Center for Policy and Technology on Disaster Prevention - General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control sent 02 officials to attend the workshop and training.
During the workshop, participants shared about the application situation of telecommunications equipment in use and shared experiences in disaster response. The AHA Center will rely on the contributions of the delegates to draft a roadmap for the application of telecommunications networks in ASEAN's emergency response.
After that, there was a training course on the use of some equipment such as Radio, Satellite Phone, Satellite Internet. These are essential equipment to support communication in emergency disaster response conditions, when the telecommunications network system is destroyed and cannot function.
After the training session, the participants understood and understood how to operate and use communication support devices in emergency disaster response situations.
