Dredging streams to get water
At Ea Ktung Irrigation Lake (Krong Jing Commune, H.M'Drak, Dak Lak), the lake bottom is dry and cracked. Mr. Y Lop, Secretary of the Party Committee of Krong Jing commune, said that this lake irrigated 25 hectares of rice, along with 20 hectares of crops and coffee of Ktung villagers.
Lake Ea Ktung is dry, there is no water left to irrigate 25 hectares of rice and many areas of coffee and crops
“For more than 10 days now, Ea Ktung Lake has no more water to irrigate, the rice near the time of making poles at the foot of the dam will surely be lost; Many sugarcane, cassava and corn fields around here are also severely affected by drought," said Mr. Y Lop. According to the commune secretary, in addition to the dry Ea Ktung lake, the remaining 5 small irrigation reservoirs irrigating 450 hectares of rice in the commune are below the dead water level.
Ms. H'Joel watered the rice to endure
In the field of Tai village, Krong Jing commune, Ms. H'Joel is using plastic pipes to pump water from Ea Tlu stream to irrigate 3 sao of parched rice. For many days now, Ms. H'Joel and the households in this village take turns dredging the stream bed to glean tap water.
“We have to divide each other for 3 days before it's our turn to pump, if households water at the same time, there is no water; Each household watering every day also loses 100,000 VND for oil to run the pump. I only worry that the stream will be completely dry in a few days. If there is no rain, all the rice will die, so I have to feed the cows," worried Mrs. H'Joel.
In Krong Jing Lake, the largest irrigation project of H.M'Drak, two pumps operate day and night to draw water downstream, irrigating nearly 200 hectares of rice in two communes of Krong Jing and Cu Mta. Mr. Le Dang Khang, deputy director of M'Drak branch of Dak Lak Irrigation Management One Member Company Limited, said that for nearly 10 days, the unit has operated 6 pumps in large and small dams, each day consuming a lot of money. nearly 150 liters of engine oil.
“Our company manages 15 irrigation projects in H.M'Drak area, in charge of irrigating 580 hectares of rice, 1,500 hectares of coffee. Currently, most of the works below the dead water level, cannot flow by themselves, must use pumps to get water. We are worried about prolonged drought, many lakes have no water to pump to save crops, especially rice, "said Mr. Khang.
“Please” for oil money to run the pump
Mr. Nguyen The Thap, Head of H.M'Drak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that this year's summer-autumn crop this district planted more than 25,000 hectares, of which annual crops were more than 19,000 hectares. However, since the end of June until now, there has been no rain, prolonged hot weather, making 80% of the 60 irrigation works in the district no longer self-flowing water, about 10 projects are dry. Nearly 1,000 hectares of crops are lacking water for irrigation, if there is no rain in the next two weeks, the area of drought and loss will increase…
According to Mr. Thap, the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented many solutions, including mobilizing dozens of pumps of units and businesses to irrigate crops; encourage people to take advantage of water sources to save the rice areas that can be saved; the rest mobilized to convert rice land to grow drought-resistant crops such as sweet potatoes, corn, beans...
“Recently, H.M'Drak asked the People's Committee of Dak Lak province to support 500 million VND to buy pump oil against drought; 2 billion VND to buy seeds of all kinds to serve the reproduction of the next autumn-winter and spring-winter crops. At the same time, it is proposed to the province for the policy of implementing the socialization of dredging irrigation dams in the district that has been deposited to increase the ability to store water for production, "said Mr. Thap.
Another eastern district of Dak Lak, Ea Kar, is also suffering from severe drought. Currently, out of nearly 60 irrigation reservoirs in the area, there are 30 with a capacity of about 50%, 22 with a capacity of 10-50%; All rivers and streams are dry, not enough water to irrigate crops. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development H.Ea Kar, if there is no rain in the next 10 days, more than 2,000 hectares of wet rice in this district are likely to lose everything, other crops will reduce their yield by 50-70%. .
