This is follow-up activities as a part of recommendation and commitment of supporting of UN-SPIDER in the mission with MARD from 2014.
The participants include representatives from management agencies, Institute from MARD, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and international experts from UN-SPIDER; Delta University, USA.
Opening the workshop, The Deputy General Director of Water Resources Directorate affirms that the important role of technology, especially geospatial technology and currently it is being concerned, promotive support to disaster prevention in Viet Nam. Mr Shirish Ravan, Head of UN-SPIDER in Asia also emphasizes the role of spatial technology in supporting implement the objectives in Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction 2015-2030.

After the presentations, the representatives discuss about role of standards and methods for sharing data; important principles in building geospatial data infrastructure; content of process for building disaster maps that based on utilizing data from Sentinel Asia, International Charter…The research results of applying geospatial technology being used to research for agriculture, landslide, drought and flood in Viet Nam.
In the conference, the issues related to unify the standard of data, product of applying geospatial technology; the connect between decision-making levels and technical support agencies; cooperation framework; mechanisms for sharing geospatial data is very important, meet the requirement of management levels, determine success in managing, steering for disaster prevention and control through making appropriate disaster maps, accurately and correctly.
After the conference, the Expert group of UN-SPIDER will continuous work with DMC and relevant agencies for: Drafting technical document, process of building disaster maps, report to Water Resources Directorate, MARD.
