16:51:59, 13/06/2016 Within the framework of Project for Widening the participation of people with disability in community-based disaster risk management in Vietnam. Malteser International Organization coordinate with Disaster Management Center and Quang Tri Disabled People’s Organization jointly organized the training course on “Disability inclusive community-based disaster risk management” (DiCBDRM) in Quang Tri province.

The participant include representatives from Disaster Management Center, Malteser International Organization, Hanoi Disabled People Association, MoLISA, Disaster Magement Center of Quang Tri, Disaster Magement Center of Quang Ngai, Quang Tri Disabled People’s Organization, Quang Ngai Blind Association, Cam Lo Agricultural and Rural Development Committee Division…

Opening speech Mr. Phung Xuan Quy, Chairman of Quangtri Disabled People Association thank all the representatives and share about the difficulties and challenges that disabled people met when disaster stricken and the important of the participation of disabled people in disaster prevention.

Ms. Mai Dung, consultant expert of disability inclusive disaster risk reduction from Malteser International introduced overall about 1002 Project and shared their practical experiences for helping the people with disability.

The course took place 5 days with Objective:
- Strengthen skill for Trainees on disaster risk assessment and develop disaster prevention plan
- Developing the trainer list of DiCBDRM for Technical groups at province, districts level in Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces.

The content:
Part 1: Basic information of DiCBDRM
In this section the trainees learn about the basic concept: Disaster Risk, CBDRM, disaster risk levels, disabled concept ... And the need for the participation of people with disabilities in risk community-based disaster risk management.
Part 2: Disaster Risk Assessment
- Basic knowledge about community-based disaster risk management.
- The community-based disaster risk tools
- Checklist of skills to mobilize participation in disaster risk assessment
Part 3: Disaster prevention Plans
Disaster prevention plans at village level

The course was very successfull, after the training course the trainees were able to:
- Understanding of the basic knowledge related to DiCBDRM (basic concepts, steps of CBDRM, DRA included disabled peoples, process of planning for disaster prevention)
- Practicing the CBDRM tools and developing disaster prevention plan at village level
- Developing the trainer list of DiCBDRM for Technical groups at province, districts level in Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces.
