Commune-level training on the "Safe, clean and green community" model in Hiep Thanh commune - Bac Lieu city - Bac Lieu province

9:19:7, 13/10/2023 Within the framework of the project "Strengthening children's resilience to natural disaster risks and climate change", from September 25-29, 2023, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention in collaboration with UNICEF organized a training class. Training on the "Safe, Clean and Green Community" model in Hiep Thanh commune, Bac Lieu city, Bac Lieu province and developing a plan to support a number of model implementation activities locally.

The "Safe, Clean and Green Community" model is compiled from programs, projects and projects on natural disaster risk management in Vietnam, including the Project on Raising Community Awareness and Management of Natural Disasters. community-based natural disaster risk, the National Target Program on New Rural Areas, and refer to experience in implementing disaster-safe community models in many countries.

The goal of the training course is that after the training class, students can:
- Understand and explain a number of concepts and terms related to natural disasters and climate change;
- Understand the content of the local safe, clean and green community model (Basis; vision and elements, principles, stakeholders implementing the model, pillars of the model);
- Understand the 05 pillars and implementation activities;
- Understand the content and draw a sketch of the commune's natural disaster risk map;
- Develop an Action Plan to implement the model.
With capacity, professional qualifications, practical experience in community-based disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and many years of experience in teaching and imparting knowledge at courses. During the training session, the main lecturer from the Center for Disaster Prevention Policy and Techniques successfully conducted the training course, achieving the set goals and meeting the expectations of the students.
With 09 content sessions taking place over 05 days, the training course combined theoretical and practical presentations. Most of the trainees seriously participated in the training, actively and proactively carrying out activities according to the instructions of the trainer.
During group activities, students actively participate in discussions, ask questions and present group discussion results. In addition, students also actively share knowledge and practical experiences from their localities. Students' suggestions after the training course were that they wished to regularly participate in similar training classes.

With the characteristics of the training commune being a commune under Bac Lieu city, not only does it meet new rural standards, but in 2021 Hiep Thanh commune will also be recognized as a commune meeting advanced new rural standards. The level of awareness and qualifications of officials and students participating in the basic training course is higher than in purely agricultural communes, so grasping the knowledge of the training content is also more convenient.
Within 5 days of training, trainees grasped the basic content of the "Safe, Clean and Green Community" model, including basic concepts, terms, and relevant project programs. related content, principles, pillars of the model as well as practicing tools to serve the implementation of the model locally.
To continue to effectively deploy the model in many other localities, after the training course, instructors at the Center for Natural Disaster Prevention Policy and Techniques will continue to review the training content and adjust the language. Close and easy to understand with the characteristics of localities and use appropriate training methods and tools to both ensure the effectiveness of activities and at the same time ensure access to knowledge and create knowledge. effectively attract learners at the commune level.
Regarding recommendations from the students, the students suggested the need to continue to organize more training courses on natural disaster prevention to improve knowledge and ability to apply locally and proposed to organize more training courses on natural disaster prevention. Training classes on safe, clean and green community models down to the hamlets for people in the hamlets to participate.
The participants also expected that the UNICEF project and the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control would continue to support the commune in implementing construction and non-construction activities locally, including financial support. in terms of funding, documents, organizing training classes, communication campaigns, teaching swimming to children, improving roads..., contributing to supporting the locality to strive for the commune to reach new-style rural standards by 2024. model and build Hiep Thanh commune to become a ward by 2025./.
