Warning of record heat in Summer 2023
9:38:3, 17/05/2023
The hot weather in the North and Central region is from May to August, of which the peak is in the North from June to July, in the Central region, from July.
May 5 and May 6 are the peak of the first heat wave of the summer of 2023
On May 5, Hanoi will be stronger and hotter. Along with Hanoi, the hot sun also covers many other areas across the country, warning there are hot spots that are especially hot above 39 degrees Celsius.

People in most of the country are experiencing the first intense heat wave of summer. How long will this heat wave last, will there be historical values like the past ones?
Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting shared more about this issue.
According to Mr. Huong, this is also a severe heat wave on a large scale, even the first large-scale heat wave to appear in all three regions of the North, Central and South; in which the Northwest and Central regions are areas where the heat is particularly intense with high temperatures of 37-40 degrees Celsius, in places over 40 degrees Celsius and a high probability on May 5 and May 6. During the hottest days of this heat wave, the possibility of a record heat is also possible.
As for the evolution of the intense heat wave, there are places that are especially harsh in the Northwest region, the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen is likely to last until about May 7. The heat in the Northeast, the Central Highlands and the South has gradually decreased since May 7.
The highest temperature values that exceed the old record may appear
It can be seen that the heat this year comes early and tends to be more intense than in previous years. Mr. Huong said that from July to September, ENSO will be in El Nino state, so the heat is likely to increase from about May to August, concentrating more in the North and Central regions.
.
The number of hot days in 2023 may appear more than in 2022. It is likely that the highest temperature values beyond the old record have been observed.
The hot weather in the North is concentrated from May to August, the peak is from June to July; The central region is May-August, the peak is July. The average heat wave lasts from 2-4 days, with longer waves.
In anticipation of a harsh summer coming, with many intense heat waves, it is likely that historic high temperature values will have a great impact on health.
In addition, the intense heat of the summer also makes the demand for electricity very high, so it is necessary to take measures to save electricity; prevent overload, fire and explosion.
In addition, the problem of drought and water shortage, especially in the late 2023 early 2024 period, because it is forecasted that with the impact of El Nino causing little rain, the rainy season is likely to end soon, leading to the situation. Severe water shortage, drought, saltwater intrusion, and drought are likely to occur in the late 2023 and early 2024 period.
In addition, the risk of forest fires in the near future in the northern mountainous region and the central region also increases.
