Assessment meeting on the implementation Progress in 2015 and deploy the implementation plan for 2016 - Project "Building disaster resilient societies in Vietnam" (Jica2), funded by the Japanese Government

17:1:9, 05/05/2016 During the morning of 20th Jan 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a meeting to assess the project’s implementation progress in 2015 and deploy the implementation plan for 2016. The meeting took place in the head office of Directorate of Water Resource, the steering committee of the Jica2 project.

On attending the meeting, from the Vietnam delegacy, there were the comrades from the project’s steering committee, delegates from related departments of the Ministry and the Directorate, representatives of project management boards from Thua Thien Hue, Quang Binh, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. From the Japan delegacy came Mr. Hitoshi Baba – Senior Counselor of JICA Tokyo cum head of the assessment delegacy, Mr. Kaneyyasu IDA – Senior Advisor of Tekizaiteikisho Organization, Mr. Chikahiro MASUDA - Deputy Head of Jica representative office in Hanoi along with other specialists of Jica Tokyo and Jica Hanoi. Mr. Tran Quang Hoai, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Water Resource – Permanent Deputy Director of the steering committee, was the chairman of the meeting.

The Jica2 project is implemented for 3 years (from September 2013 to July 2016) by the Japanese Government’s ODA funds worth 438,087,000 yen (approx.4,377,330 USD) and 7,428 million VND from Vietnam’s counterpart fund (in which 2,156 million VND from the Central Government’s and 5,272 million VND from localities). After 2 years of implementing, the Jica2 project has contributed in enhancing the capability toward natural disaster prevention for the projected provinces, completing the General Flood Management program in Quang Binh Province, organizing trainings on analyzing currents and facsimileing floods, introducing solutions to use satellite information in forecasting and warning of floods in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, building the operating procedures of some reservoirs in the Central region, Operation of Piers manual, Instructions on examining dams, etc. and enhancing the general institutional floods management at the national level
