Earthquake shakes Türkiye-Syria border

10:42:12, 31/03/2023 On February 20, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook the Turkish-Syrian border region, killing at least three people and injuring more than 200.

The quake struck around 8pm on February 20 (local time) and was felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the city of Antakya, southern Türkiye. According to the Mediterranean-European Seismological Center (EMSC), the epicenter was at a depth of 10km.
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said at least three people had died and more than 200 had been taken to hospital.
Turkey and Syria suffered this earthquake just two weeks after the earthquake killed more than 47,000 people and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes.
According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), the death toll in the country alone is 41,156 and this number will continue to rise. In addition, 385,000 apartment buildings have been damaged or seriously damaged, while many people are still missing.
