The situation of water resources, drought and sanility intrusion from 1st to 8th April, 2016

10:34:36, 30/06/2016 According to statistics by the Department of Irrigation Management and Dam Safety: as of the date 08/4/2016, the whole country has over 335,000 hectares of farmland affected by drought, saltwater intrusion, of which nearly 57,000 hectares of land to stop production. More than 328,000 households in severe water shortage. The most affected areas are the South Central region, the Central Highlands, the Southeastern region and the Mekong Delta. Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the local authorities direct plant shifting over 5,300 hectares.

The average capacity of medium and large irrigation reservoirs in the whole country reached about 59% design capacity. In the Northern area, the reservoir capacity reached 68% design capacity, the Northern Central region reached 71%, the Southern Central region reached 57%, the Central Highlands region was 35% and the Southeast region reached about 40% design capacity.
